The ISTQB® CT-TAS v1.0 syllabus covers the key aspects of test automation strategy in six chapters:

After completing the ISTQB® Certified Tester – Test Automation Strategy course, you can:
- identify software/system factors that influence test automation success
- assess cost, risks, and feasibility of automation initiatives
- define roles, responsibilities, and governance for sustainable automation
- plan integration across test levels (including shift-left/shift-right)
- position automation in agile, legacy, and DevOps/continuous-testing contexts
- set up business case/investment appraisal and metrics/reporting for decisions

prerequisites
A basic understanding of software testing and test automation is helpful. Experience with QA processes, test management, or introducing/improving automation in a team supports learning success. To obtain the ISTQB® Certified Tester – Test Automation Strategy certification, you must pass the exam and provide proof of the ISTQB® Certified Tester Foundation Level certificate.
exam & certification
Your participation in the examination is optional. We assume that you will also take the exam after the training course. Please let us know when booking the course if you do not wish to do so.
The exam lasts 60 minutes and takes place immediately after the last day of the classroom training course, provided that there are enough participants. Alternatively, you can take the exam at a later date of your choosing. For online training courses, you can generally choose the exam date and time yourself. You can take the exam at a Pearson Vue test centre or online on the Pearson Vue exam platform. We will provide you with an exam voucher, which you can use during the payment process when booking. Non-native speakers can request an extension of the exam time.
We will organise your participation for you. The independent certification body charges a fee of €225.00 plus VAT for conducting the exam, which we will invoice you for along with the training fees.
