In this ISTQB® advanced training course, everything is about the tasks of a test automation engineer (TAE) - from the conception, development and implementation to maintenance of test automation solutions. You will learn the concepts, methods, tools and processes for automating dynamic functional tests and their relationship to test management, configuration management, defect management, software development processes and quality assurance. We explain how you can apply the methods described using different software lifecycle approaches (e.g. agile, sequential, incremental, iterative) and types of software systems (e.g. embedded, distributed, mobile) as well as test types (functional and non-functional tests).
The course imparts the curriculum contents of the ISTQB® in 3 days. After the training you can competently integrate test automation into test processes and select suitable tools for the respective tasks. We make sure you can develop a test automation strategy (TAS), build a test automation architecture (TAA), and review and optimize your test automation frameworks (TAF). You will learn how to turn manual tests into automated tests and how to generate and analyze automated reports and metrics. The course is accompanied by repetitions on the terminology of testing and the test fundamentals.
All our trainers have many years of teaching experience in the field of software testing and also have sound practical knowledge as management consultants in both small and large projects. Find out more about your trainer here.
In this training course we teach the contents of the official curriculum of the ISTQB®. In addition, our trainers will introduce you to as many practical examples as possible so that you will be able to easily apply what you have learned later on.

The course "ISTQB® Certified Tester Advanced Level - Test Automation Engineer" (CTAL-TAE) is based on the basic course (CTFL) and is aimed at advanced participants who already have several years of practical experience. The course is suitable for both specializing in test automation as well as gaining deeper insights into the design, development and maintenance of automated tests to support business or project decisions regarding test automation. This will be of particular benefit to:
Sound knowledge of software testing and practical experience in IT projects are a prerequisite for your participation in this training to ensure a deeper understanding of the contents. In order to obtain certification as an "ISTQB® Certified Tester Advanced Level - Test Automation Engineer", the basic certificate "ISTQB® Certified Tester Foundation Level" must be provided in addition to the successful final examination.

small learning groups
As a training participant, you of course benefit from learning in a group and the experience of the other participants. Yet to ensure that you get to pose all of your own questions, we keep the group sizes very small, with a maximum of 10 participants. This allows our coaches to make certain that we meet the needs of all participants, even if the participants’ levels of existing knowledge differ.
Our courses are guaranteed to take place from as few as three participants, and provide you with long-term planning certainty for your training activities.
printed teaching materials
Making notes, writing down questions, post-it notes with reminders for content that you want to return to later – not a problem at all, as we provide all the materials in printed format at your workstation. Even though we strongly advocate progressive technologies, we value the printed format when it comes to working in a learning environment and to course preparation and follow-up at home, in your hotel or back at your place of work.
printed certificate of participation
Often you need to prove your knowledge not only in the workplace, but also to institutions or employers. At the end of the course you will receive an official certificate of attendance for your own records.
fresh break-time snacks & a delicious lunch
We know that a sense of well-being helps you learn better. This is why we provide not only fresh knowledge, but also comprehensive catering during all breaks, with fresh and dried fruits, as well as other nerve-soothing foods ranging from nuts to biscuits. A lunch with all participants and our coaches is also a fixed part of our catering package.
hot and cold drinks
We ensure a limitless supply of hot and cold drinks throughout the duration of the course. So you can leave your thermos flask and water bottle at home, and let us serve you.
lean coffee or lean pizza event
Some of the course content requires further discussions and, when considered in-depth, throws up further questions which cannot be resolved within a normal training day. To this end, for all our 4- and 5-day courses we offer an in-depth session on one morning or evening, including catering. The participants jointly agree whether they would prefer to get up earlier or stay later, and which topics they would prefer to explore in greater depth with our coach in an informal atmosphere.
We offer free WIFI at all our training locations. To allow you to quickly get to work at our premises, let us know in advance of the course and we will provide you with access details and a password.
The DIN/ISO 17024 requirements stipulate that training companies cannot themselves provide the examination. An independent certification institute carries out the examination, not least to ensure the independent quality control of our training courses. We offer you the services of the certification institute so that you don’t incur the additional hassle of securing an examination appointment. We invoice the examination fee and organise your exam at the end of the course. You can simply focus on getting prepared.
In addition to their teaching work, all of our trainers have been and continue to be involved in projects, with each of them possessing more than 15 years of professional experience in various sectors. They have also all additionally acquired teaching qualifications. It is important to us not just to teach the training material, but also to enable each participant to enact what they have learned in the workplace. The point is for it to not feel superimposed, but instead for the acquired knowledge to be incorporated effortlessly into your own work.
We don’t hold with dilapidated offices that are unfit for running a business from but which are deemed good enough for a week’s training, and whose lack of light makes it easier to read the PPT slides. We know that a sense of well-being helps you learn better. That is why all our rooms are well-lit and have large windows. They feature a wealth of opportunities for creative development. Breaks are always spent outside the classrooms. After all, a change of scene is a key element to then being able to once more concentrate on the course content. And we of course also provide a sufficient supply of hot and cold drinks, as well as the necessary nerve-soothing snacks. Is there anything else we can help you with? Then please let us know! We make many things possible.

Werner Lieblang is the globetrotter among our trainers. As Senior Managing Partner and Authorised Representative of trendig technology services GmbH, he has over 30 years’ project experience in English as well as German in the areas of (test) process analysis and assessment (TPI and SPICE), systematic testing and test management, software quality assurance, project management, agile methods and soft skills. Werner has helped to co-develop several training courses focusing on testing and agile methods, and, as a certified group worker, is a much sought-after workshop coach and experienced team coach. As a work-group leader, he also works on behalf of the German Testing Board. From the automotive and rail industries, e-commerce, banking and insurance, through to publishing companies, telecommunications and heavy industry, Werner has a broad range of industry experience in several countries.
Werner is therefore often just passing through when he is in Germany. His true self yearns for the warmth of the divers’ paradise that is the Maldives, or the Australian outback, his home from home. The main thing is that there is sunshine and casual clothing. That’s because nothing is worse for Werner than feeling constrained: whether that’s in a suit, in his thinking, in a discussion, or in hierarchies. This is also why Werner sees himself less as a trainer and more as a partner who, through occasional improvisation rounds, motivates his course participants to spend a little time away from the beaten tracks of the training course.
At least 20 years mentally younger than his birth year might suggest, Werner is still always on the lookout for new people, new ideas and new insights. This, he says, is because if he has learned one thing during his coaching career, it’s that people generally have better insights as a group than he does as an individual.
